Puffle Rescue Board
The Puffle Rescue Board was the main menu of the game. It also showed the instructions for the game. The Board had three pictures of puffles: the Blue Puffle was trapped in the Arctic, the Pink Puffle was trapped in the mines, and the Black Puffle was trapped underwater. The difficulty ranged from left to right, left being the easiest.
Modes
Ice Levels
In the Ice Levels, the player had to walk on moving ice bricks that floated above water to rescue Blue Puffles — 1 to 3 each level — which were found on special platforms, also used as check points. If players fell into the water, they lost one life and had to start the game from the latest check point. The player could carry several puffles at the same time as well.
Cave Levels
In the Cave Levels, the player had to move on moving mine carts that travelled on rails to rescue Pink Puffles — 1 to 3 each level — which were found on special platforms, also used as check points. If players fell into the abyss, they lost one life and had to start the game from the latest check point. The player could carry several puffles at the same time as well.
Underwater Levels
In the Underwater Levels, the player had to swim in the sea to rescue Black Puffles — 1 to 3 each level — which were found on special platforms, also used as check points. If they were too slow, they sunk, unless they reached a plain platform, a fan platform or got hit by a bubble. If a player sunk, they lost one life and had to start the game from the latest checkpoint. The player could carry several puffles at the same time as well.
Moss Key Pin
- In the game, the penguin had to play the first Black Puffle Level.
- After saving the Black Puffle, the Giant Squid would appear and swim out to sea, leaving a trail of bubbles behind it.
- The penguin had to use those bubbles to chase the giant squid to a coral reef far out to sea, where there would be a staircase which lead into the Underwater room, where they could get the Moss Key Pin.

Creatures

---|---|---|
Giant Squid | Appears only in Level 1 of Underwater Levels for players who do not have the Moss Key Pin. The player can follow the squid and get to a secret coral reef and enter Underwater to obtain the pin. | |
Shark | Sharks are enemy creatures found in the Ice Levels of Puffle Rescue. They start to appear in Level 1. They will eat the ice in their path, leaving a trail of water. If the penguin touches a Shark or is standing on ice when the shark destroys it, they will lose one life and start the game from the latest checkpoint. | |
Bat | Bats are helpful creatures found in the Cave Levels of Puffle Rescue. They start to appear in Level 6. If the penguin stands in an orange spot, they appear and will pick you up. While carried by them, the player can use the left and right arrow keys to steer them. If the player steers them to another orange spot, they will drop him/her. Players also need to be careful to avoid hitting the walls when steering the bats, because if they hit a wall they will drop him/her down into the abyss. | |
Shocktopus | Shocktopi are enemy creatures found in the Underwater Levels of Puffle Rescue. They start to appear in Level 2. If the penguin touches them, they will get an electric shock, lose one life and start the game from the latest checkpoint. |
Collectables
There were usually tasks a penguin had to do to unlock one of these in 3 types of levels. Ice Levels required pushing a balloon with a key up towards the lock and turning the lightbulbs on. Cave Levels required stepping on invisible tiles and getting to the secret platform and dodging gas pipes and a giant rock. Underwater Levels required jumping on bubbles and following the paths to each bag.

Trivia
- On the first underwater level, if you waited you would see the giant squid. Following it would take you to a hidden trapdoor, which took you to the Underwater. You could pick up the key there, and through the underwater caves you would gain access to the Underwater.
- Shocktopi had a Card-Jitsu card, in which if played, the room filled up with water. Your opponent was dressed in a diving suit, similar to the one in puffle rescue. You swam away, and in your place came a shocktopus. It shot multiple electric shots at the opponent, and then the penguin and the shocktopus went off screen. The room drained and returned to normal game play.
- It was one of the only games in Club Penguin Online that had an endless amount of levels.
